We as an Association play our role to organize the imports and dealerships of this very vast trade, spread all over Pakistan and imports from most of the countries are mentioned above. The current situation of demand / consumption is as follows: - Only around 35 sizes are being locally produced as against the required 300 sizes. - None of the off Road tyres is produced; - None of the Steel radial Truck / Bus Tyre sizes are produced; - The total local production counts for around 30% of demand. This situation makes it more important to have a Trade Body to look into the affairs and facilitate the import business. With the vehicle population on rapid increase the consumption of tyres has increased manifolds and the trade has expanded to a bigger size. Since the size range has enlarged and the imports were being made from different countries, the need to organize the trade was rightly felt by the business circle. So, the Pakistan Tyre Importers and Dealers Association (PTIDA) was formed in 1982. Today, this representative body of tyre trade is well matured and its service and usefulness is well known to trade as well as Government Departments. PTIDA has main objectives and roles as under: Regular Short Term Activities: Advisory: In the fast growing production of vehicles with frequent changing models in the world the Association provides a platform for the Members to know / exchange the latest developments in Tyre Industry to cater to the upcoming demands. Facilitation: We make research to provide comprehensive information to our members to cope with the world. The Association has formed a Bridge between the importers and the Government institutions especially with Customs to facilitate the relationship without dispute. It ensures that the importers have smooth clearance and at the same time there is no loss to national exchequer as we perform as follows: 1. The recent example is the issuance of Valuation Data by the Custom Authority a copy of which is attached at the close of this write-up. You may observe that for formation of this data the Association made all the basic exercise. This data was released by the Government and today all over the country the imported tyres are assessed on this data. As such the exercise is no done by any other Trade Body to assist the Government of Pakistan in ensuring availability of correct import prices. 2. We verify the import values for the sizes not in the list at any time and issue certificates for assessment. On average 10 such certificates are issued every month which helps the Government in getting more revenue. This kind of arrangement is also not accomplished by any other trade body in the country. In 2006 the total demand of Truck Tyres was 1.2 million, the local industry was producing only 78 thousand tyres the import was 220,000 and the remaining 9.9 million tyres were smuggled due to the efforts of this important association. The government was convinced and the import duty was reduced from 10 to 5 and withholding tax from 6 to 2 with the result that the import went up to 700,000 sets in the next year and the government received additional Custom Duty and taxes. 3. We represent with the Ministries of Finance and Commerce for rationalizing the import duty and taxes to boost the legal trade and bring increase in national exchequer. The Financial Feasibility for the years 2007, 2008 and 2009 duly certified by the Auditors has already been submitted, however, we have been sending photocopies of the same for the Director General Trade Organizations, Islamabad under Rule-4(1)(x) of the Trade Ordinance Rules 2007, which also cover the Projected Profit / Loss and Cash Flow Statements required by them. Until recent past the tyre trade in Balochistan used to be completely disorganized and very little quantities of legally imported tyres and tubes were being supplied due to heavy influx of smuggled goods. Moreover in Balochistan you may observe that the traders generally do not have NTN m=numbers. Now, however, importers have succeeded in getting some share and we are glad to inform that the following members have been registered so far. We are continuing our efforts to bring more dealers to the Association: Members from Balochistan: 1. M/s. Spinzer Motor Store, Shop # 35, Circular Road, Quetta, NTN # 0507774. 2. M/s.
